Doodling in School
Oh, the inspiration I get from high school... I don't think I'll have anything quite like it again.

All in one sitting. Did it in oils. It's probably done, but we'll see how I feel about it in the morning.

The Theory of Size
The Theory of Size
This is about how we view size. Certain things are big, other things are small. But really, things go on forever in both directions. A mountain range is microscopic compared to a solar nebula. A butterfly is gigantic compared to an atom. You get my point. So here, what I have done is create an image filled with objects of all different sizes in actuality, and then made the smaller things in life larger and vice-versa. You really need to see it in person to get the full effect, because there are a lot of small scenes you can't really see here.
Look closely

Stages
30" x 40"
Oil
It's finally done. I've been dying to make this vision a reality for months. It's one of my favorite things I have designed. I named the it 'Stages' when I originally drew it. To me, it is about the different ways we view the world in different periods of our lives. All very different, but equally real. Just as my beliefs and yours are both equally true, no matter how conflicting they may be.
I don't believe in one single truth.
I believe that the truth is what you make it.
I intentionally tied each figure together in different ways. The old man and the middle-aged man in suits, the middle aged-man and the little boy in stripes, the old man and the little boy sit in an upright, optimistic position, the old man and the little boy have shells for heads, the middle-aged man and the old man rest their arms on their knees and so on... There are a few more symbols in there, maybe you can spot. And they all sit together on one small bench, looking out into the infinite desert and all of it's infinite grains of sand.
The desert does not change with their ages, their clothing and their minds.
It is just as still, as deadly, as boundless and absolute as it is.

Some Rough Pen Work
This is my fantasy bird/fish I did for a school assignment.
I'm going to add to it once I get it back.
Another class assignment I thought turned out rather interesting.
It's supposed to be a mask which I will Photoshop onto a picture of myself.

Untitled Post
The following are three experiments I've done that I think turned out really well. I did the first one this morning and the other two yesterday afternoon. I'm feeling more and more abstract/impressionist in regards to painting lately.

Embracing Illustration
In my first period today, one of my art teachers lent me a book on an artist by the name of Mikhail Chemiakin. I drew this after looking at his illustrations

Car Art
Did this painting on the inside of my 1983 Chrysler LeBaron. Painted directly on the door and glued the frame around it.
The Making of Lexie
Oil 18x24
I did this portrait of a friend of mine. I've wanted to paint her for a while. I had always envisioned something more high contrast and figure oriented, but time ran out before she moved to Portland with her band Afro Omega, so we did a last minute photoshoot at Liberty Park. I'm rather unpracticed in oils, so this was an extremely fun experiment for me. I'm really enjoying learning how to paint more loosely and emotionally, while maintaining a sense of realism. Oils are much better for that than acrylics, which is what I usually use. Anyways, I did the whole thing in school, so at the end of each class period I took a picture of my progress:

Recent Artwork
This is just a summary of the artwork I've done over the past year. I did my best to put them in a decending order. Some of it is finished, and others I'd like to develop farther:
Acrylic/Oil 36'X48'
This is the most recent piece I've finished. I consider it in many ways to be one of the most ambitious projects I've done so far. It was a very complex idea based on a dream that I had. I used no references (although in retrospect I should have for the little boy's face) and experimented a lot with color and different brush techniques. All in all I consider it to be a huge success.
Pen & Pencil
Acrylic 24x48
Acrylic 16x20
I did this painting as a project for my English class. It is based off of Shakespeare's play Hamlet.
The Bear Who Loved the Cactus
Acrylic 12x12

This is my newest favorite idea. I'm in the process of doing a large oil version.
