Some Rough Pen Work

This is my fantasy bird/fish I did for a school assignment.

I'm going to add to it once I get it back.

Another class assignment I thought turned out rather interesting.

It's supposed to be a mask which I will Photoshop onto a picture of myself.

This was based off of a poem I wrote about Dora Maar and Picasso

The following are three experiments I've done that I think turned out really well.  I did the first one this morning and the other two yesterday afternoon.  I'm feeling more and more abstract/impressionist in regards to painting lately.

Embracing Illustration

In my first period today, one of my art teachers lent me a book on an artist by the name of Mikhail Chemiakin.  I drew this after looking at his illustrations

Car Art

Did this painting on the inside of my 1983 Chrysler LeBaron.  Painted directly on the door and glued the frame around it.

The Making of Lexie

Oil 18x24

I did this portrait of a friend of mine.  I've wanted to paint her for a while. I had always envisioned something more high contrast and figure oriented, but time ran out before she moved to Portland with her band Afro Omega, so we did a last minute photoshoot at Liberty Park. I'm rather unpracticed in oils, so this was an extremely fun experiment for me.  I'm really enjoying learning how to paint more loosely and emotionally, while maintaining a sense of realism.  Oils are much better for that than acrylics, which is what I usually use.  Anyways, I did the whole thing in school, so at the end of each class period I took a picture of my progress:

Recent Artwork

This is just a summary of the artwork I've done over the past year.  I did my best to put them in a decending order.  Some of it is finished, and others I'd like to develop farther:

Acrylic/Oil 36'X48'

This is the most recent piece I've finished.  I consider it in many ways to be one of the most ambitious projects I've done so far.  It was a very complex idea based on a dream that I had.  I used no references (although in retrospect I should have for the little boy's face) and experimented a lot with color and different brush techniques.  All in all I consider it to be a huge success.

Acrylic 16x20

I did this painting as a project for my English class.  It is based off of Shakespeare's play Hamlet.

The Bear Who Loved the Cactus

Acrylic 12x12

Pen & Pencil

This is my newest favorite idea.  I'm in the process of doing a large oil version.
