The Making of Lexie

I did this portrait of a friend of mine.  I've wanted to paint her for a while. I had always envisioned something more high contrast and figure oriented, but time ran out before she moved to Portland with her band Afro Omega, so we did a last minute photoshoot at Liberty Park. I'm rather unpracticed in oils, so this was an extremely fun experiment for me.  I'm really enjoying learning how to paint more loosely and emotionally, while maintaining a sense of realism.  Oils are much better for that than acrylics, which is what I usually use.  Anyways, I did the whole thing in school, so at the end of each class period I took a picture of my progress:
